Happy New Year to all our readers and let us hope 2007 carries on in the same vein as the latter half of 2006 - surely will if the right new year's resolutions have been made and are adhered to.

Welcome to Winscombe for this Senior Cup match. With the form of the reserve side, and the defeat of TOOLSTATION Hengrove Athletic in the last round, we must have one eye on the next round. BUT BEWARE: Winscombe are one of the few sides to have beaten us this season and so are not to be taken lightly. We need to produce the same sort of performance that meant you could not actually tell in the previous round which was the side from the higher standing. Shows the strength in depth we have here which will help to stand us in good stead as the season unfolds and the pressure of matches builds up through the huge number of postponements and vagaries of the fixture list.

Hopefully the loss of both fixtures last Saturday will mean that one or two injuries and illness will have cleared. ‘Course that gave the opportunity to watch even more of the glut of matches on the box. I just wonder these days who has the most difficult jobs. Is it managers or players (or Chairmen !) or officials or even supporters who get dragged all over the country travelling miles and then find a postponement or abandonment. Certainly it is not the pundits warm in the studio with no responsibility and able to say anything (occasionally outrageous) without reply. So many matches turn on a crucial decision which is then bisected to the ninth degree. Probably evens up over a season or probably three if you see what happens at the bottom and the top. Luckily there is still the regular class act or piece of magic from nowhere that turns a game. That's what makes it all worthwhile and why it is still the most captivating. Some more today I'm sure. Have a good one……
