Welcome Corsham for "THE BIG ONE"!  - 24/03/2007 << Chairmans View List
...........................................................................................................................................................

Welcome to everyone for what we hope will be a bumper crowd today - not that our regular attendances are small by any stretch of the imagination if you see the tally of average crowds at this level and above. It's part of what makes this a good club to be involved with - the more the merrier.

So here we are, Corsham Town at last, and could this be a defining moment in terms of the quest for the top. Couple of others stil in contention of course as it should be as the section on remaining fixtures wil show - more than a bit interesting I'm sure you will agree, endless permutations of which today is one.

Unless things have changed this will surely be a contrast in styles of play - shows there is more than one way to skin a cat and play the beautiful game. Fascinating prospect, let's trust it lives up to expectations and the main players - no all the players - from both sides and from the third team on the field contribute in the right way. We therefore greet Corsham, hope they have an enjoyable day - but not that good - and the Referee and his team also, usually at their best when not the most prominent trio on the field.

For us the last couple of wins keeps the pot boiling, but we do need to reign in those couple of games which went the wrong way. We shall see and also look forward to a home meeting with Willand in the LP Cup on 03 April I believe. Should be a decent crowd for that as well 'cause their crew enjoy the journey from Devon to the real cider county. Meanwhile the Reserves again drew (about the fifith on the trot I think) but stay in contention.

Final point: you know of the freedom of speech enjoyed by we in Great Britain. Only ones it does not apply to apparently are the likes of Arsene Wenger, Mourinho, Sir A etc., the usual suspects you might say. Not allowed to say what they think of some things in any game it seems, particularly decisions on which many games turn, before the thought police from the FA jump on them. Could it be that in the Tower of Babel, which this country has become, democracy is being lost in translation - my thanks to Jeff Powell for this gem Enjoy
