Frome Town notes  - 31/10/2009 << Chairmans View List

Move on and back to reality with the visit of another Somerset Club making their way up the ladder. Welcome to Frome Town and no doubt my good mate Woolfie. How much would we both have liked to have gone that bit further and joined our friends from Paulton with the prospect of a substantial gain from both the benefit of the draw and the TV prospect - I'd say so. It was not that far away and conjurs memories each time I hear a radio piece or a tv bit or see the papers of that visit of Reading and a first round proper 73ish. Change of management but not doing too badly in their promoted year so far - thus expect a tough game today and another battle for points. Nearly all hard earned in this league and this division. So was Saturday but pleased to see the return journey made a lot less boring with a 3 - 2 win. Same here for the youthful (largely) Reserves ironically also against Frome. Many memories of Frome after spending the season 1984/5 there with a few other Bridgwater imports. Some interesting times on and off the field and also a little irony in a couple of good cup runs. Crap in the league but good in the cups - how does that happen. It did that season.

Tuesday for the second week running saw the odd goal defeat first in the FA Trophy replay and then the Red Insure Cup. Both games we might have won and both to a degree stolen. This week that huge deflection for the Truro winner and the prior one that might have been. Various at the astro end convinced it was but to no avail though, of course, had a word after even if not of the Sir Alec extravagance. Anyway that's gone so get on with it and aim for the top or top five at least. Still the Somerset Premier Cup for extra spice.

So an invention. It has to be goal line technology after Tuesday (Stumpy thinks so for definite) - now you all know i am joking. There is enough messing about with this beautiful game from FIFA downwards and not sure who they are trying to please with each 'minor' law change / rule change / directive. Please somebody leave the game alone and let's just play.

Enjoy Hurf

PS Welcome news to hear that Lyndy-Bar is back on her feet and on a real mend.
