A warm welcome to all and in particular the Players, Officials and Supporters of our visitors from Uxbridge - trust you had a good journey down from the smoke, enjoy the visit and have a safe journey home. Certainly my Mum had a regular journey relatively safely to and from Uxbridge where she was stationed for much of the second World War but that was across London to and from Lambeth. Strange how memories attach to places and names. She would have eagerly awaited today as she did previously and as we all do as we try to keep the current run of results and clean sheets going notwithstanding the varying interludes between games caused by the weather god's unwillingness to find any consistency.

Of the recent past the only consistent thing has been the inconsistency. However we make every effort and should be playing. As good an opportunity as we will get this week to build on Tuesday's win with another home game. But do not fret plenty more coming up so first things first and to the whistle. Mentioning the whistle greetings also to the third team here today and the Referee and what used to be linesmen in the good old days - interesting reading JH's articles on refereeing in the recent programmes - something to keep up with in that performances of the officials especially the middle man of late have been of high quality and contributed to pretty good competitive games. Long may that continue after some earlier season dubious efforts where the game and the footballers seemed the least important things on the field. Mind you impact of dubious decisions happens in every sport and we just ought to get used to it as part of the game and the real talking point. Just ask the England cricketers though that was down to 'technology' supposedly so keep that away from this beautiful game please. Same at our neighbours Albion last week and there the dubious decisions contributed hugely to their loss. The late Bill McLaren would have used up the Hawick phrase book that is certain with his colourful quotes.

So of Tuesday, a superb display first half and coming out of the blocks could have been three before anyone drew breath. But not to be and the second half kept everyone on their toes to the bitter end - and it was getting a bit of that. Fortunately the goal had come first half - would like half a glass of whatever it is the Lydeard flyer trains on - and should have been added to. Still enough for goal difference to take us third. Now want to stay there so you all know what that means - and the part the terraces and stand occupants have to play. Keep the noise level up. Do please follow 'Water under the Bridge' advice and you will use the new seats.

Lastly an invention. Actually not one but a re-invention. How about a return from the scorers scrapbook of one Lazenturkeyhornet. A most generous piece which I am sure I could have coloured having seen some of the parts of the anatomy he did score off - obviously written for the pen pictures in the 'WI' gazette!
Do have a good day… Hurf
